Technical details

Battery containers
0

Each of the 8 battery containers at Ingerslev Å BESS holds, among other things, thousands of rechargeable battery cells. The same type found in an electric car, just at a much larger scale. Together they form the basis for the park to store surplus electricity and deliver it again when it’s needed.

Total storage capacity
0 MWh

Ingerslev Å BESS has a total storage capacity of 40 MWh. The battery stores energy when there is a surplus in the grid and sends it back when demand rises. The system can deliver up to 20 MW, which means a fully charged battery can supply electricity at maximum output for about 2 hours.

Medium-voltage stations (MVS)
0

The 4 MVS containers raise the voltage from the batteries’ 690 V to 30,000 V. The higher voltage reduces the current and energy loss, so large amounts of energy can be transported onward efficiently.

Grid connection
30 kV → 0 kV

From the MVS containers, the electricity is carried to the park’s own 60 kV transformer station, where the voltage is raised from 30 kV to 60 kV. It is then sent on to the grid operator’s transformer station, where the voltage is raised again to 150 kV before being fed into the grid.

For 2 hours
0 households

With a storage capacity of 40 MWh, Ingerslev Å BESS can store energy equivalent to the average electricity consumption of around 43,800 Danish households for two hours.

The calculation is based on an average consumption of 4,000 kWh per household per year.

A battery park (BESS) is the key to a stable and flexible power grid.

The battery park stores energy when production is high and can release it again when demand rises. This way, the park can smooth out fluctuations in both electricity prices and consumption, and reduce the risk of power outages. At the same time, battery storage lowers the need for fossil backup solutions and imported energy. The result is a stronger, smarter and more flexible power system.
